Notes from the Weekend

A NEW CAFE opened in town last week, and one of the owners is an old Tuesday night football acquaintance of P’s, who has opened the place with his partner, who moved up from London. It’s in the centre of the village, in the place another café used to be, and they’re planning on serving “typical café fare”, including speciality coffee and tea, and using locally sourced produce. Their pastry case was filled with ham and cheese croissants, coconut caramel shortbread and chocolate olive oil cake. We’re interested in how it will all go, as it’s a major career change for P’s friend and a major location change for P’s friend’s partner. Plus, we’re always interested in seeing how new businesses work out. It’s late Tuesday morning and the sun is streaming in, although it’s very windy out. The clocks change for British Summer Time on March 26 and I can’t wait for longer days and spring. Trench coats and white denim and wicker handbags are waiting.

This week’s links include a Grade II-listed Regency house on the Norfolk coast reimagined by Veere Grenney and our favourite trench coats for spring days; a recipe for crispy cabbage and cauliflower salad, and much, much more.
