Four Fantastic Things: A Trench Coat for Spring, White Chocolate Minimalism, Vintage Cakes & more

White Chocolate Minimalism

Architectural Digest has pronounced “White Chocolate Minimalism” the new interior trend to watch. Consisting of primarily neutral colours and predominantly organic materials, its aim is serenity, by way of rooms constructed of “sophisticated yet unfussy comfort”.

"With restraint in mind, spaces aren’t to be packed with too much stuff. Forms are kept uncomplicated, tones muted, furnishings few—avoiding any visual (or literal) clutter."

Classic Trench Coat

The first day of spring is eleven days away, so it’s time to start dreaming of yellow daffodils and sunny days, which also means, time to start shopping for spring things. This classic long trench coat is perfect for dressing up any outfit, or dressing down when worn over a sweatshirt and blue jeans. Wear it with a turtleneck and a button-down shirt on chillier days, and with a t-shirt when it’s warm⏤the combinations are endless.

Retro Cakes

Think the last remember there being an actual cake trend was the naked cake that apparently first began with Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar back in 2007, but really coming into its own around 2016. Devoid of the majority of frosting you would typically see on the exterior of a cake, it was the opposite of this season’s vintage cakes. These kitschy retro confections are all about the frosting, with their swirly, frilly, over-piped design that can be traced back to the French Rococo style of the 1700s, an age known for its ornate and gilded designs. We, of course, love this trend, and April’s Baker in London makes really beautiful ones. With flavours such as Chocolate & Salted Caramel and Vanilla Peach Custard, we’re thinking of ordering one for no reason at all. Prices range from £60 for a mini cake to £400 for a three tier cake.

Gold Chain Bracelet

Lizzie Mandler’s 18kt gold bracelet is a nice change from the ultra-fine chains we’re used to seeing. The chunky chain links are inspired by the intricate, curved edge of a blade and a single round-cut 0.45ct diamond held in a claw setting adds a sense of elegance and refinement.
