“Time — a few centuries here or there — means very little in the world of poems.” There is something reassuring about Mary Oliver’s words. Especially in an era of rapid change, there is comfort to be had in those things that move slowly. But oceans rise and mountains fall; nothing stays the same. Not even the way poetry is made.
NEVER REALISED the need for outdoor curtains until coming across it again and again, mostly in archways and doorways, sometimes from the windows of juliet balconies on old apartment buildings and saw how utterly charming it is ...
A CLOSE FRIEND recently remarked that she was low on energy, inspiration, everything. I brought it up to P who wondered, Do you think that maybe it's late-stage pandemic? He said that he was reading an article about how when we were in the height of lockdown, we accepted it and could mentally cope, but now that vaccines have been rolled out and it feels like we're nearing the end of lockdown life, we're remembering what life used to be like and it seems so very nearly within reach ...

THERE HAS BEEN much soul-searching these past few weeks, and a taking stock of sorts, as is the kind of thing that always seems to happen at this time of year. There is something about the month of February that always brings about a desire for spring cleaning, whether things no longer needed, or even those in our lives who we’ve grown apart from; to begin again and keep only those things filled with good intent and a spirit of generosity and overwhelming positivity. There is a quote by Marcus Aurelius that have been falling back on quite a bit lately as we embrace this new year and all of the promise it brings: “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” This week’s links include a mansion in the Marais and white dresses for spring, an interesting recipe for Activated Charcoal Pancakes With Lemon Coulis and much, much more.
The city of Milan is most known for its fashion week, held three times a year since 1958 under the ownership of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. In fact, so much so that they say during the Fashion Week the city has a magic vibration that quickly wears off after the show ends. I am glad I discovered a beautiful Milan full of life & beautiful architecture and stylishly crowded, a true show of art and beauty.
