WE DISCOVERED these stunning photos of Schloss Benrath (Benrath Palace) by @helenlovestulips on Instagram and immediately fell in love with the wonderfully over-the-top Baroque-style maison de plaisance (pleasure palace) in Benrath, now a borough of Düsseldorf...
EVERY YEAR, when summer fades into fall, there is an ushering in of new trends, new patterns, fabrics and styles―knits and leopard print (which, are incidentally, "in" so often, they're considered a classic), smart suits and moody florals, athleisure (still) and denim.
ONE LOOK THROUGH our Décor Archives and you will notice immediately that there are very few contemporary interiors and a thorough fondness for maximalism. We've always favoured traditional or new traditional styles to anything modern, being drawn instead, to ornamentation―gilded mirrors and chandeliers, toile and boiserie and crown canopies. The closest we've ever ventured to the modern or minimal is ornate austerity.
The Merrion Hotel, located in the heart of Dublin's city centre, is regarded as the capital’s most luxurious five star hotel. The 142-bedroom and suite hotel arises from a restoration of four Georgian townhouses, and includes a pool, spa and gym.
EARLIER THIS WEEK we ran a short Colour Story on Dusky Pink and everyone went a little crazy for a certain impossibly romantic restaurant with pink tablecloths bathed in lamplight, overlooking the sea. Where is this place? they asked. Where on earth indeed. After a little searching, discovered this magical place to be a Michelin starred restaurant in Italy, located at the hotel Il San Pietro di Positano, Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy to be exact.
LAST NIGHT I spilled an entire newly-filled Brita over my iMac keyboard and while it worked after the incident, the next morning, the spacebar (Have you ever tried typing a paragraph without a spacebar?), the enter and delete keys, the apostrophe (and perhaps more) were no longer working. In hindsight, should have dried it out facedown overnight, but as it is now, it is most likely ruined, never to return to the way it was. On Friday morning, we left for London...
DO YOU REMEMBER that feeling where you've been working toward something for so long, that once you've finally accomplished it, instead of feeling excited and celebratory, you're in a bit of a haze and utterly exhausted? Well that was how things were this past weekend, but (happily) not for long, for after there was time for what actually happened to sink in a little, we began feeling a little more relaxed than we have in ages and did end up having a really wonderful weekend. We're making plans again, and they are now not for work only, but for upcoming trips, and even for the holidays...
We've had the very good fortune of visiting the Scottish Highlands many times, but every time we find ourselves there, it is always equally breathtaking. For this reason, we've become completely captivated by Mango's Fall-Winter 2019 campaign, shot on location in the highlands...
THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND WAS filled with all of the very best things: perfect late-summer weather and champagne at a Sunday garden party; white horses and hilly trails and drinks on flower-laden terraces; late brunches, coffee and sunshine and wishing that summer would never end…
ONE OF THE THINGS we perfected in Spain (and by “we” I mean P) is the tortilla, a cosy potato omelet, which is what we made this weekend. We also made another one of our favourite dishes, Chickpea & Kale Shakshouka―it was terribly rainy, so comfort food seemed like just the thing.
AS YOU KNOW, since moving to the countryside, we've been obsessed with country farm house style, whether in the south of France or the rolling hills of Italy, and can not resist anything with wood ceiling beams and stone walls these days. This particular home, in Silverleaf, Scottsdale Arizona, has both...
WE SPENT MOST of the last week in Edinburgh on business, and have also been slowly emptying out the contents of our storage unit there, which means for the most part of the past few days, have been buried under an avalanche of old photographs and letters, and even came across a diary by my fourteen-year-old self. It’s been strange and exhausting living in the past, but it has also been an exercise in deciding what to keep and what to leave behind, what’s really important and what I really can’t live without.
THIS WEEKEND WE celebrated something special and also tried to absorb as much of the last golden days of summer as possible. For this first September week, we're back and forth to Edinburgh for business and to sort a few things out. We've also finally installed some bookcases to the left of the fireplace in the living room and have begun moving the boxes (and boxes) of books and magazines from the storage unit to the cottage. The floor is currently strewn with paperbacks, oversized coffee table books and glossy back issues of favourite magazines in a pile of nostalgia and happy chaos. Everything that we've been working for in the past few months has lead to tomorrow and we're relieved, excited and exhausted all at once...
Last week, had a strange dream about an old childhood friend; her name was Kathryn and she had golden hair and sea blue eyes. She would hand me long handwritten letters nearly every morning, even though we saw each other at school everyday. Every letter always ended with an inspirational quote, such as, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” (George Eliot) We were best friends.
DANIELA & I NOTICED lately, a flood of long seashell dresses, tops and mermaid swimsuits floating by our Instagram feeds―a welcome sight, of course, because who doesn't have mermaid dreams from time to time? The long slinky satin sheath dresses with their spaghetti straps are most likely by Bevza, the Ukrainian fashion label launched in 2007. All of the dresses appear to be sold out, although the Seashell Top is still available (for now). We've found a few other similar styles, including a fun fanned out bikini top―scroll through our inspiration board below for some serious seaside vibes...
