WE DISCOVERED these stunning photos of Schloss Benrath (Benrath Palace) by @helenlovestulips on Instagram and immediately fell in love with the wonderfully over-the-top Baroque-style maison de plaisance (pleasure palace) in Benrath, now a borough of Düsseldorf.  The palace was erected for the Elector Palatine Charles Theodor and his wife, Countess Palatine Elisabeth Auguste of Sulzbach, by his garden and building director Nicolas de Pigage. Construction began in 1755 and was completed in 1770 and today, has been proposed for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is thought that the walls are pink because at the time, this colour was very costly, so it was a perfect way to show opulence. Scroll through for a glimpse…
