P AND I WERE caught up in a long conversation about AI this weekend, and it’s something that has also been mentioned here at TIG quite a bit lately. He is an early adopter for most things, while I can be a nostalgist⏤not because I don’t love technology (I do), but because I can be a bit sentimental sometimes. P also loves to play the devil’s advocate and declared, If we have bots to chat with, why would we need humans? And of course, I would remind him of all the good qualities that humans have that bots don’t (even the ones using a Generative Pre-trained Transformer) and that yes, while we have weaknesses and failings, it’s our weaknesses and failings and striving to be better, that also make us endearing.

The reason why everyone is talking about ChatGPT and AI technology so much these days is because a new technology like this one has not been seen since the invention of printing, which happened around 1436! So it really is a big deal. Anyway, back to our conversation⏤P is normally right about the next big thing and both of us have had our own experiments with the technology. For instance, I asked it about love and here is its answer:

AI, do you believe in love at first sight?

As an AI, I do not have personal beliefs or feelings. However, the concept of “love at first sight” is a common trope in literature and popular culture, which suggests that it is possible for people to feel a strong romantic attraction to someone upon first seeing them. However, it’s important to note that this concept is subjective and varies from person to person. Some people believe in love at first sight while others do not. Love is a complex emotion and usually it takes time and interaction to build a strong emotional bond with someone. Therefore, it’s possible that people might feel an initial attraction upon first sight, but true love often involves a deeper emotional connection that develops over time.

A perfectly rational and logical answer. I wonder if this answer will change over time and learning. And if you’re wondering about my thoughts on the matter, the answer is yes, I do believe in love at first sight. Because it happened to me.
