The Web site Stack Overflow was created in 2008 as a place for programmers to answer one another’s questions. At the time, the Web was thin on high-quality technical information; if you got stuck while coding and needed a hand, your best bet was old, scattered forum threads that often led nowhere.
I SOMETIMES wonder what happened to all the people who asked me for directions. Despite not ever really knowing where I’m going (or sometimes even where I am), I am often asked for directions, especially in cities that don’t belong to me, sometimes even moments after I’ve just arrived. Perhaps some of them are still driving around, taking the wrong turns that I inadvertently sent them on.

THERE ARE five days left of August, and if you're one of those people who do not wear white past the first week of September, then you don't have much time left. End things on a high note with this ultra-chic outfit of high-waisted wide-leg pleated trousers, a sleeveless turtle neck and cosy knit jumper wrapped casually around your shoulders for when the temperature drops. We included our favourite selection of trousers to shop, and while we were unable to find many sleeveless turtlenecks (although this might work), we did find a number of perfect alternatives...
