IN THE SECOND week of May, just after the Bank Holiday, we decided to spend some time back in London. We normally visit several times a year, but since 2020 was the year of the Great Lockdown, the last time we had been was the May previously to meet up with a friend from Spain—it was hot then and perfect for traipsing about. P had heard that there would be a heat wave this time around
EMMA HILL, this week's Blogger Style feature, may be the queen of autumn dressing, but since the weather hasn't been exactly cooperating lately, perhaps a little cool weather style inspiration is appropriate, until at least (hopefully) next week, when summer promises to return again. Even still, Hill's expert layering works for any weather...
THIS WEEK’S Style File features the impossibly chic looks of Maria Kragmann (@mariakragmann). Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Kragmann is the founder of clothing brand M-KAE, filled with neutral basics, athleisure and quilted valley shorts. Why we love her style: not only does Kragmann master the ability of layering, but she switches from dressy in blazers and camel coats to sporty chic and trainers effortlessly.
Shygirl’s “Alias” is less than twenty minutes long, yet it’s weighty with the jolting hyperpop and club music that the London electronic artist has been making for the past few years. Each song is meant to show off a different side of her personality, a tactic that frees her up to play with a frenzied palette of sounds: “SLIME,” co-produced by the like-minded Scottish experimentalist ...
Paris Women’s Spring 2021 ended on a rainy Tuesday (the 6th of October) after 8 days filled with digital and (still) physical shows. There wasn’t the same business and the same euphoria on the streets, but there was still hard work and creativity shared on the runways.
THIS WEEK’S Blogger Style features the utterly charming Instagram photos of Lovisa Barkman (@lovisabarkman). Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Barkman's life in pictures includes chunky knits on a sandy beach and a tiny puppy in a wicker handbag ...
Instead of delaying or cancelling their show because of the health crisis, the House of Chanel, headed by Virginie Viard, revealed their Cruise 2021 Collection this past Monday on digital platforms. The fashion house's first ever digital show, Balade en Méditerranée / A Mediterranean Jaunt, brought Capri to Paris. The collection was originally intended to be shown on Capri, but was recreated in Chanel’s Paris photo studio instead.
Wearing statement pieces over and over again mean one thing: timeless trends. The classic pieces that people can wear on repeat are not only refreshing and show style, but also create an even bigger desire to be purchased.
Mornings are crisp and grey, often there is rain and lights on in the windows, and with my current sleep routine (early sleeping and early rising) I am often spending mornings sipping coffee and going through some books...
THIS WEEKEND WE watched the Wimbledon finals, and Sunday’s match, between Federer and Djokovic, was especially exhilarating and ultimately heartbreaking (Federer forever). The weather has finally turned summery and I’m all billowy white dresses and espadrilles these days. The roses in all the English gardens have begun to fade, but everything is lush and green as it always is at this time of year, the height of summertime, when the days are hazy and you can almost hear the clouds float by. We still have so much to tell about these past few months of change and renewal, but for now, it’s nice to step back a little from everything, safe in the cosiness of the cottage and breathe. Also began a new book, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Harari, which has provided much to think about…
OUT OF ALL THE RECENT trends we've seen lately, from silk to (white) pantsuits to silk scarves, our favourite would have to be the chain belt. Appearing as early as 1922, the chain belt is most associated with the 1990's, when it was made popular by Chanel. And since the 90's themselves are having a moment, it's no surprise that this trend has made a resurgence. Whether made of medallions or coins, interlocking circles, pearls, flowers and even starfish, chain belts are a chic way to finish off any outfit, from jumpers to blue jeans and everything in between... (including swimsuits).
DANIELA wrote about Virginie Viard's appointment at Chanel in early March (The Woman Behind Chanel: Virginie Viard) and since then, we've been waiting to see the new creative director's debut. That moment has finally arrived, in Paris at the Grand Palais, which was turned into a train station.
