While we’re getting ready for a festive month, in some cities the first snowfall has already been celebrated, and morning coffee is being taken more and more often under the covers, even though I just discovered a pretty café in my neighbourhood.
The days are getting shorter and darker, and so to brighten up chilly autumn mornings, here are a few of our favourite October kitchen essentials, from the prettiest pink glass pitcher to always cheerful and elegant preserved topiaries, impossibly chic cane and lucite trays, golden flatware and gilded table lamps...
RECENTLY READ an article on happiness that discusses the work of Sonja Lyubomirsky, a psychologist at the University of California, Riverside, and the author of The How of Happiness. According to her findings, roughly 50 percent of happiness is determined by genes (i.e., completely out of our control), roughly 10 percent is determined by circumstance
The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival was recently held from the 8th to 19th of May 2018. It's one of the most glamorous events of the year and we always look forward to the montée des marches on the tapis rouge. Two years ago, Victoria featured The Best Vintage Cannes Fashion Moments of All Time and last year, Victoria's Secret model Elsa Hosk's red carpet look was stunning, she dedicated an entire article to it. This year, Elsa does it again with a stunning blush silk gown by Alberta Ferretti, and we're also including two other looks we loved: Kendall Jenner in a gauzy Schiaparelli, and Bella Hadid in a pink strapless custom-made gown by Dior.
IT IS A LONG WEEKEND here in Spain, as it is in Canada and some parts of the US. Here, there were fireworks last night and parades and marching bands this afternoon. As for us, well we had the most perfectly leisurely and lovely morning, coffee and autumn sunlight and the streets below all quiet. We’re in planning mode this week, for Friday’s early morning flight, as well as a few last-minute deadlines. This autumn has been one of reconnecting with old friends and acquaintances, a little taking stock of where we’ve been and where we’re going. It is unfathomable that there is little more than two months left of this year, that summertime has gone. The year drawing to a close with each faded pink sunset and our heads are filled with dreams.
THE MAGIC OF PARIS FASHION WEEK is as unfailing and ubiquitous as the legacy of the maisons that hold their shows there since the late 19th Century. Take Dior, now helmed by the first female creative director in the house's history — Maria Grazia Chiuri — and her feminist looks that storm down the runways. Or Saint Laurent, which under Anthony Vacarello continues catering to the cool nonchalant Parisienne. However, under the great fashion week shakeup, new faces are migrating from London and New York to the French fashion capital.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE OVER and a new year has begun, and if you’re dreaming of a seaside escape but can’t get away just yet, here are a few breezy, island-inspired things to set the mood — from river pearl drop earrings to wicker daybeds and table lamps, palm branches on cushion covers and even a brass palm tree sculpture — here are a few seaside things for a January day…
SEPTEMBER IS THE FASHION INDUSTRY'S NEW YEAR. The start of autumn means reinventing your wardrobe to be the woman you've always wanted to be, whether it's finally succumbing to French girl style, or buying your first leather trousers for a femme fatale look. Fall campaigns — much like fashion editorials — are a reflection of their time, pointing to the zeitgeist of the moment as much as articles or features. The mood for this autumn? Well, it's a positive one, simply look at Missoni's colourful campaign, or the promising new look of DVF under Jonathan Saunders; and an imaginative one, cue Gucci's 60s sci-fi campaign complete with extra-terrestrial creatures and dinosaurs. So, whoever you want to be this fall, make it a stand-out.
THESE LINKS ARE a little late as we still try to process the terribly sad events that unfolded in Manchester earlier this week. Perhaps it would be best to sum up our feelings with Poet Tony Walsh’s ode to the city and its people, which he performed in front of thousands at a vigil of peace in Albert Square yesterday. Listen here (UK) and here (US) and read the full poem below:
For the third instalment of this series, we're looking at the swimsuit of the season, the much-hyped (and Instagrammed) Vetements x Manolo Blahnik collaboration, the (still going strong) trends of tweed jackets and Birkin baskets and more.Click through for a glimpse of this month's fashion news ...
