The Art of: Sara Shakeel, The Original Crystal Artist

Sara Shakeel‘s bio simply and hilariously says, “I was a Dentist”. And it’s no wonder that she uses the past tense, for The Original Crystal Artist is enjoying quite a bit of internet notoriety these days. Her magical depictions of both everyday things such as eggs and toast and the metro, and fantastical things, such as gigantic moons hanging over city and seascapes—all wonderfully encrusted in a million crystals—captures the imagination in a way few things do these days on Instagram.

With no formal art training, the collage artist shared, in a recent interview with Forbes, that she does not come from a family of artists, but rather, one of engineers, doctors, pilots, and teachers. Of course, in the digital age, no formal art training is necessary, and one look into Sara’s glittery world will have you convinced.

And for the record, Shakeel equally loved being a dentist as being an artist.
