Notes from the Weekend & this Week’s Links 22.04.24

P WROTE LAST week’s Newsletter, and it’s about American Fiction, as well as the author whose work inspired the film, whom he is now reading. (You can find it here.) While still in the middle Little Women, of course I started two new books—the latest being In the Swarm: Digital Prospects by philosopher and cultural theorist Byung-Chul Han. I’ve only just begun, but can already see that he is making thought-provoking assessments about the internet and the digital revolution. As a philosopher, Han’s main focus is to shed light on how the subjective human experience has evolved as society has shifted from a post-industrial era to the digital age. Han also happens to be the internet’s favourite thinker at the moment, which is ironic given that he is an offline sort, with no social media presence whatsoever. Today we walked across town to the cosy family-run coffee shop near M&S to pick up Monmouth coffee beans, which they were unfortunately out of. It’s one of those little mom and pop places where there is literally a husband and wife and their daughter all working together, and it’s the only place we know of that sells our favourite coffee, save for the actual Monmouth café all the way in Covent Garden. The cherry blossoms have faded and fallen, lining the pavements with bright pink petal pathways and the apple blossoms and lilacs and wisteria are in full bloom now, but the weather is still not quite there yet and we are getting impatient for lucious spring days. If you haven’t had a chance to visit The Shop recently, there are beautiful new raffia market totes and as well some of our very favourite moisturisers, made from wildcrafted, organic, plant-drived ingredients.

This week’s links include a turreted chateau in Sancerre wine country, and 13 yoga poses for tight hips; five ways mindfulness helps you age better, wide-leg pants and mary janes, and much, much more.
