Notes from the Weekend

WE ARE IN the midst of a heatwave and it’s intense. Even I, who is always cold, am overheating a little and during last night’s cardio, it felt like I was in a sweat lodge. Of course, I’ve never actually been in a sweat lodge, but it felt like what I imagine being in what would feel like. Yesterday, I googled “how to tell if you’re having a heat stroke” and realised that blue jeans might not being an option for the summer, even with floaty tops. Everyone else appears to be wearing billowy dresses, and wide-leg pants with tiny tank tops, so I might need to go shopping, since all of my really warm-weather clothes are still in Spain. In other news, there is a wren that, according to the internet, is searching for a mate, and his method of finding one is through very loud, somewhat shrill calls from a treetop outside our bedroom, from oh, about dawn until 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning. I haven’t seen him, as it’s very leafy on our new street, but I’ve definitely heard him. We all have. The entire neighbourhood. Yesterday I picked up a bouquet of peonies at the supermarket and today, they are (with the exception of one) all in full bloom. They are beautiful, this bouquet of incredibly ephemeral flowers, and it’s rather inspiring having them on my desk next to me while I work. How are you?
