There is such importance placed on curating one’s social media feeds, especially when it comes to Instagram. But what about curating a media experience?
Like many others, I have found the platform to be an unpleasant experience as of late. I’m not convinced the platform is worth the time and effort that it requires. Despite its faults, Instagram is still a great place for inspiration. By approaching it the same way I approach Pinterest, it has made me excited to discover niche interests such as art.
Surprisingly, I prefer ‘inspiration’ accounts such as @hello_artists, @c_l_o, and @carlottawinder to the more established museum and magazine accounts when searching for new artists.
The following are a few visual artists who I am following:
Fantine Reucha
Fantine Reucha is an illustrator whose work and photos of Paris are eye-candy. Her aesthetic is that certain minimal-romantic aesthetic, which is loved at the moment, but will also be charming years from now.

Charlotte Lapalus
Charlotte is an up-and-coming fashion photographer whose moody images evoke 90s minimalism and Guy Bourdin. Her aesthetic is a bottle of Calvin Klein’s Obsession come to life.

Shaina McCoy
I recently discovered Shaina’s oil paintings on the account @hello_artists and her work evokes the warmth and tenderness missing in art’s current environment.

Toyin Ojih Odutla
Toyin has had an incredible year! Recently, the Whitney acquired her work and she has been featured in Vogue, Vanity Fair and Frieze—to name a few. It’s exciting to follow one of the great artists of our time on Instagram that is impeccably curated but also gives a glimpse into her process.

Doan Ly
If you love flowers as much as I do, then you’ll love photographer and florist, Doan Ly’s colorful still life images.

Zoë Ghertner
What I like about Zoe’s fashion photography is how she captures the strength of her models. This is why she was such a good match for Phoebe’s Céline ad campaigns.

Sebit Min
Sebit is a graphic designer who designs book covers, post cards, and her own line of calendars. Her pastel images are a dream.

Maja Dlugolecki
Maja is an abstract painter whose palettes often include teal, rose, and emerald. I can only imagine the personality her pieces have in person because they seem so lively online.

Steven John Clark
Ceramics are having a moment right now, especially objects that are inspired by the great sculptor, Brâncuși. Steven’s interpretation on this aesthetic is playful, but not too twee or pretentious.

Irene de Klerk Wolters
I adore Irene’s art, but also her calming palette of sand and pink, and the décor of her home in Copenhagen.
