A FEW MONTHS ago I turned a tall shelf on its side to use a console, leaving the now vertical shelf spaces below for storage. It looked good on top, but the spaces below looked cluttered, so I thought about getting a curtain made to hide everything. I was thinking about how, in European kitchens, the lower cupboards are often covered using curtains instead of cupboards, and always liked the idea for its versatility: just change up the fabric from a stripe to a floral for an entirely new look, or swap linen for silk to go from casual to formal ...
STOCKHOLM-born Felicia Akerstrom's impeccable style has been featured here at TIG many times before. The blogger, digital influencer and content creator describes her social channels as a visual diary of her style and travels. We love her minimalistic style and her effortless high-low mix of investment pieces and affordable finds. From long skirts and light-knit sweaters to white pantsuits and black halter dresses, here are a few of our favourite looks...
TUCKED AWAY on the Côte d'Azur (the Mediterranean coast of southeastern France) lies Château Saint-Victor-la-Coste, one of the most idyllic places to while the hours. A vacation complex comprised of three cottages and one suite (in a 16th century castle), all available for rent, the Château is situated in the old village of St Victor la Coste (an equal distance between Avignon in Provence and the market town of Uzes in Languedoc) where you will find a boulangerie and épicerie
THESE LINKS COME to you late, as the short trip we made to Edinburgh to visit family ended up spiralling into chaos due to the heat wave over these past three days. We left for the city on Sunday morning and were only supposed to stay one night, but the temperature rose on Monday and created mayhem⏤schools were closed, shops were shut, people stayed home from work, and trains, tubes, and subways were cancelled.
HEARD ON A podcast that Napoleon hired someone to read books to him while doing mundane tasks like brushing his teeth. P listens to podcasts while shaving and cooking, and I've begun listening to an economics podcast while putting on makeup. I still read only books and my Kindle though⏤no audio books for me.
BY PURE COINCIDENCE, I recently watched both It's Complicated, the 2009 film with Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin; and Father of the Bride, the 1991 film with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton. Now everyone knows that when you watch Nancy Meyers films, the interiors nearly steal every scene (remember the charming cottage in The Holiday?), so when I came across the writer-director-producer's redecorated Los Angeles home, of course I had to have a peek, especially since she worked with LA-based interior designer Mark D. Sikes, whose work has been featured here many times.
THIS EXTRA LONG Bank Holiday weekend felt more like five days instead of four, as we stopped working on Wednesday and took the next few days off. There were sunny afternoons and a surprise visit from someone far away; faded vermilion-coloured roses in pink glass vases and lingering drinks on pub garden terraces; freshly baked crusty loaves of sourdough bread for breakfast and really good coffee ...
WE RECENTLY discovered London-based interior design firm Salvesen Graham on Instagram, and immediately fell for their quintessentially British style. Founded by Mary Graham and Nicole Salvesen in 2013, the duo focuses on creating Future Heritage interiors with a sensitivity to historical and traditional interior schemes.
HAVE YOU EVER come across an editorial that is so good that you wondered how you missed it? This editorial, entitled, Ultra-Marine, is one of those. Published in Vogue Paris (before the name change), it features Luna Bijl, a Dutch fashion model who was one of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s muses ...
IN AUGUST OF 2020, we featured the bohemian eclectic Notting Hill home of Matilda Goad and just discovered that her and her husband have sold the place. The new home, a Victorian terrace also in London, is equally bohemian eclectic, or perhaps even more so ...
A FEW WEEKS ago we featured Villa Arniano, interior designer Camilla Guinness’s house in the Tuscan Hills, and by some wild coincidence we happened upon Zara Home's latest online catalogue, shot at this very place. It appears that they restyled everything, filling the rooms with their new product line-up and created these beautiful photos which make the villa look perhaps even lovelier...
LAST WEEK WE featured the Hudson Valley home of Deborah Needleman and while we were researching her place, we came across Villa Arniano on Needleman's Instagram: "Back from a week at the house of my dreams—the Tuscan idyll of @camillaguinness. Spent a few days with @jacobwe, @skyegyngell, @davidprior, @holly_gore and my daughter Lily Weisberg who doesn’t bother herself with social media, and then a few days with #camillaguinness, @amberguinness and @macmillandavidmb languorous, long summer days eating (really well) reading, chatting , swimming and napping. I was so blissed out I didn’t take any pictures, so these are lifted from Camilla and Amber’s Instagram as well from @arnianopaintingschool the week-long painting workshops Amber runs here with her friend @willropercurzon"
THE BEAUTIFUL sunshine streaming through the windows is at odds with this morning's news of more shelling in Ukraine and a plane crash in China. Every night for the past week, I have been falling asleep to dreams of war. The nights are frenetic and uneasy, the mornings much more calm with lucid thoughts over coffee, at least until the news cycle begins again ...
ISCHIA IS A volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, located at the northern end of the Golfo di Napoli (Gulf of Naples), part of the Campanian Archipelago, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the city of Naples. It is one of the most picturesque islands in the bay, with exotic scenery, flowering hills and rocky beaches. It's also known for mineral-rich thermal waters and natural springs ...
