THE INTERNET is a funny place—it can be both stifflingly small and a place so large, that we can all be "known" in our own little corner of it without ever running into each other. I only discovered Pia Baroncini, the Creative Director of Los Angeles clothing label LPA, today and loved the little glimpses she gave on Instagram of her Spanish colonial home in Pasadena, California ...
IT BEGAN WITH the image above, a Parisienne dressed in a belted trench with white ankle socks and loafers, things grew from there and before we knew it, we had another folder filled with autumn/winter style inspiration, from cosy shearling and pile to belted puffer coats, baseball caps with blazers and trench coats and extra long woollen scarves, jumpers worn as scarves, clogs and capes, ultra-light cashmere sweaters and more ...
YES, WE KNOW, it's only been officially autumn for a month, but with the nights drawing in so quickly now, the bright yellow leaves falling off the trees, the wet gloomy skies, and British Summer Time ending at the end of the month, we're already dreaming of sunnier times and warmer days. If the dark days of autumn and the dreary days of winter must be tolerated, then we'll do it with cosy evenings fireside, and also through plenty of daydreaming. These images, that came floating through our feed this week, of places around Mallorca are a perfect place to start ...
SUMMER RETURNED for two glorious days last week, so like all self-respecting Brits, we dropped everything to enjoy the late-summer sun while it was still here. We spent both days on long bicycle rides to places we'd never been before, including hiking to the most photographed tree in the county (it was even in a famous film once). We had drinks on pub terraces in the middle of nowhere and got sunburned and ate truffle oil garlic bread pizzas and basically had the most wonderful time ...
WE HAVE BEEN BACK to Edinburgh many times since we moved away in 2015, but it was not until this past visit in June did we notice how much things had changed in the city since we left, but more so, how much had changed just in the past year of lockdown. One of P's favourite pubs, Smithie's, where he would often go after playing football (soccer) on Thursday nights, closed forever, set to be turned into a block of flats ...
Former Chanel model and fashion icon, Betty Catroux, was a muse to Yves Saint Laurent since 1967: “It was love at first sight—physically, I was androgynous, asexual, and it definitely affected him. Our resemblance was not only physical: we were alike morally, mentally. And what was so amazing about him is that he felt that I could be his soulmate—a kindred spirit” she once told Vogue Italia.
WE FEATURED THE WORK of interior photographer and stylist Carley Page Summers twice before (here & here), but she has since added more images of her North Carolina home to her Instagram page and it's all marble and crystal chandeliers, gilded mirrors and dappled sunlight, a cat on a dining room table, and a dog curled up on a pink velvet armchair by the fire ...
SOMEHOW ENDED UP in the book A Thousand Splendid Suns, the 2007 novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Have you read it? It has the alarming combination of being unbearably depressing, sweet in parts, and insanely anger-inducing all at once, and last night I couldn't sleep because I was so incensed by the plot line ...
I ORDERED an exercise bike online last Thursday, even before the announcement on Saturday night of a second nationwide lockdown here in England. A few months into the last lockdown, we ended up ordering enough gym equipment to turn the spare room upstairs into a fitness studio. But after all the delicious bread and pasta and wine of the last lockdown ...
THIS WEEK’S Blogger Style features the utterly charming Instagram photos of Lovisa Barkman (@lovisabarkman). Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Barkman's life in pictures includes chunky knits on a sandy beach and a tiny puppy in a wicker handbag ...
IT WAS ONLY A MATTER of time before we happened upon Julia Amory's Hamptons home in all its chintz-y splendour. Amory, her husband and their daughter split their time between New York City and the Hamptons, and it is this, their summer home, that we are in love with. Decidedly grandmillennial in style, it's a little new traditional with a healthy dose of grandma chic thrown in for good measure.
Designer, writer and creative consultant, Nicolas Fairford, is one of our favourite recent Instagram finds. Not only will you find idyllic English countryside scenes―manicured gardens, climbing roses and spring lambs―but you'll also catch glimpses ...
BECAUSE WE SOMETIMES post photos of our life lately, Instagram's algorithm has thrown many such similar images across our path, which is sometimes annoying and sometimes wonderful if it leads to the discovery of accounts such as @irenemylife.
