WAS REMARKING recently how one of my pet peeves is when people don't know the difference between its and it's. Bad spelling and grammar in general are annoying, but when people mix up its and it's, especially so. And in this age of social media everything ...
I'VE HAD THESE PHOTOS of Plum Sykes' home in the Cotswold Hills saved since it was featured in Vogue in the fall of 2016, while we were still living in the city, and long before we ourselves moved to a similar life in the English countryside ...
STORM CIARA was in full force this past weekend with gale force winds, driving rain, and even hail. Needless to say, we spent most of the time indoors, keeping cosy by the fire, watching films and trying out new recipes (P made roasted cauliflower with creamy pesto risotto).
THIS WEEKEND, the weather warmed up enough to show us a glimpse of spring. All through the village, winter blossoms are blooming, a surprise to us, for we thought all the bright yellow petals on bushes nexts to garden paths and pink blossoms on the archways of trellises would wait for at least another few weeks.
EVER SINCE Athleisure arrived on the scene about six years ago, we didn't exactly welcome this emerging trend with open arms. That is because at the time, it seemed to be all yoga pants at first, and then ugly trainers with everything ...
WHILE WE'RE NOT adversed to a tracksuit and blazer combo or trainers with everything, one Mini Trend we're really excited about is the return to MODERN ROMANCE. A return to pretty, more feminine pieces such as ruffled-collared blouses under soft mohair sweaters and very puffy sleeves on strapless dresses and cosy knit sweaters; bows on everything and the return of classic fabrics such as silk and satin and chiffon ...
HERE IN THE UK, TODAY IS considered the first day back to work after the holidays. We were away to visit family in Scotland late last week, and spent the weekend lingering over festive things for the last time, so it's back to work for us today as well. On Sunday the weather was beautiful and we spent most of our time outdoors in the beautiful English countryside ...
THE COTTAGE IS filled with vases overflowing with pink tulips on the bookcase, and pale pink roses on the desk in an effort to brighten things up, conjure up feelings of springtime. It's freezing outside and apparently snowing all over Britain, just not here.
EVEN THOUGH WINTER comes every year, always forget what an ordeal it actually is. How early the days get dark. How overcast and blustery and how much all of this makes me never want to leave the house until spring. It feels like we're on the 174th day of January and there's still February ...
THERE IS A STORM on the way, very high winds, rain, and perhaps even snow tomorrow. At the moment, though, it is still up swirling about up north in Northern Ireland and Scotland and making its way down. Here, it feels as if we've been hibernating since the start of the new year, venturing out over the weekend only for a quick drink in the cosy pub ...
Used to compose my weekend thoughts and new year‘s messages while out walking our dog, a Dalmatian rescue who was a good listener. Now writing does not come quite as easily, which is why it is one of the things I’ll be working on this year. Last year’s New Year’s Resolutions really seemed to resonate with many of you and I am happy to report that I conquered all of them in 2019, especially reading more and getting better sleep ...
