AS THE FIRST day of autumn approaches this Friday on September 23, we're resigned to the fact that summer is nearly over. On the bright side, fall clothes are wonderful⏤whether trench coats with wellies; or a chunky knit with white jeans (we are still transitioning after all); tweed blazers and baseball caps; flared blue jeans and boxy coats, here are a few of our favourite ways to dress for these autumn days...

The past few days I’ve been enjoying a slower rhythm of life: some time with friends and the empty and rainy streets of Paris. I’ve also been particularly enjoying American author, Fran Lebowitz, in the series Pretend It's a City, biographical documentary created in collaboration with filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The series captivates―not only with her wit and way with words―but with the bond between her and Scorsese, talking and laughing together on the streets of New York. And I’ve also become very fond of her style and endlessly inspired by it, especially by her choice of her blazers.
Spring's latest mini trend appears to boxy, oversized blazers over barely there sexy underthings: pretty little tops made of lace, elegant bustiers and even corsets for summer's golden days. Switch up the look with a cropped tank top or sports bra, or, if you like, while at home in quarantine, nothing at all...
IF YOU HAD THOUGHT that the athleisure trend wasn't going to last, you're probably beginning to realise, five years along, that not only is it here to stay, but it's only just beginning...

. . . a little autumn style inspiration in the form of dresses and trenches and belted herringbone blazers, bow...
EARLY SUNDAY morning, we quietly lost an hour to British Summer Time. We would not know about it until much later in the day, when we suddenly remembered about the clocks changing, and it all made sense why we felt so tired. Last Friday we drove up to Scotland, armed with a Victoria Sponge cake to celebrate a 95th birthday. The drive was sunny and scenic and as always, we had a lot to talk about. We stopped by the new café in the market square for two flat whites (mine, oat; his, regular) before setting off.
WE FIRST INTRODUCED you to German style blogger Livia Auer three years ago, in 2019. While Auer still loves berets and trench coats, her style has evolved and become a little more sophisticated, with long knit dresses and striped jumpers added to the mix. There are tweed blazers and trousers and waistcoats and bouclé jackets and blue button-down shirts, oversized sunglasses, denim jumpsuits and a bit of a 70s vibe...
IT'S BEEN WILDLY blustery for days now, leaves blowing everywhere and here, cosy with candles and a fire all weekend long. We watched an old Italian giallo film from the sixties. It wasn't nearly as good as Dial M for Murder (Alfred Hitchcock, 1954) but it was entertaining and interesting, as I'd never watched anything in that genre before.
WAS READING an article about 7 great but notoriously hard-to-finish books and realised that I'd started most of them, but actually did finish one them⏤Thomas Piketty's 2013 masterpiece, Capital in the Twenty-First Century⏤all 600 pages of it, and enjoyed it so much that I'd considered picking up his follow-up while at Waterstones recently. Last week we introduced new candles at The Shop and we had no idea that they would be so wildly popular so soon after launch. Today, two new scents have arrived, just in time for upcoming festivities: Cranberry and Chestnut ...
AT THIS MOMENT, the room smells like cool and smoky autumn air after a cosy bonfire. We're burning Embers & Ash, one of the new fragranced candles that arrived today and it's strange trying out a different scent from Gardénia, our longtime favourite and the only candle we've ever burned for years. But it's a nice change and it's definitely cosy ...
WE SPENT MOST of the weekend doing art. P took up architectural sketching with markers and pens a few weeks ago, and I've been working furiously on a few new pieces/projects over the past few days. We'll be adding our favourites to The Shop and I've just discovered a wonderful printing place in East London that will handle all the prints of our work ...
WE'RE TRYING out one of those food services that deliver a huge box of fresh ingredients to your home⏤enough to make five different meals from scratch, all packaged in separate numbered paper bags with recipe cards for each. It arrived on Saturday and the first meal we (actually just P) made was Cauliflower Mac and Cheese with Blue Cheese Crumb and Sriracha Drizzle. It was actually really good.
