OUR FACES are golden on noses and cheekbones, our shoulders bronzed from the past week of hot summery weather. Just as we promised, we spent every single day outdoors, working on camp chairs in new exotic locations throughout the week and ending with dinners on the back terrace on the weekend. Once, we even had a barbecue along the river, our first and possibly only of the summer? It was also during this dinner at dusk that I noticed some birds making their migration southward, so it’s already happening, this ending of summertime. There was also the Perseid meteor shower, which is said to be active between July 14th to September 1st this year and is said to have peaked last Thursday and Friday night, but we unfortunately didn’t see anything despite the sky here being dark and cloudless. But I did read that some people had begun seeing shooting stars the night before and I looked up images the next day, including some taken by photographers who had climbed up a remote hill in Bosnia. You know that I’ve been an avid stargazer since I was little and am always up for a cosmic light display. I also managed to bake a failed cake (stirred instead of folded), and a very successful batch of flourless protein brownies (with chick peas!). They were so easy and so delicious, I considered having one for breakfast this morning.
