There is a moment, somewhere between the last warm afternoons and the first properly cold mornings, when getting dressed begins to feel interesting again. The lighter things of summer give way to leather, cashmere and heavier shoes; colours deepen, sleeves lengthen, and suddenly there are reasons to wear gloves.
