In April, we featured the enduring appeal of the slip skirt – easy, elegant, endlessly wearable. And now, just before summer officially begins, we’re returning to it with one of our favourite ways to style it: with a lightweight sport jacket.
Because the weather here in the UK is, as ever, deeply unreliable, this is the kind of pairing that makes perfect sense. The slip skirt brings softness, movement and a little romance; the jacket adds ease, practicality and a faintly off-duty mood, with its high collar, zip front, gathered cuffs and barely-there nylon sheen.
It is the contrast that makes it work: fluid satin with something crisp and technical, feminine polish with a touch of athletic nonchalance. Worn with a simple tank, a fine knit, ballet flats, sandals or trainers, the look feels relaxed but considered, dressed but not too dressed, ready for warm afternoons, cooler evenings and whatever the forecast decides to do in between.
P.S. This works in place of silk skirt, and these two silk skirts are currently on sale: one & two
