@samantharoseTHIS WEEKEND was a working one, as we have the first part of a brand collaboration due in the next few days and the second due at the beginning of next week. There has been creative direction and storyboarding, photoshoots, styling and editing. Only realised just today that the first week of December is nearly over and that there are only a few weeks separating this year and a new one. Late Sunday night, while texting on Telegram with my sister, she decided to randomly surprise me with a video call. I hesitated, purposely missing two, but ended up answering the third time, because she’s my sister. The reason for my hesitation was because I was in full “goblin mode” and you may not be sure what that means, since I only learned the term yesterday, when P told me that it was the new Oxford word of the year. It’s this year’s answer to “the increasingly unattainable aesthetic standards and unsustainable lifestyles exhibited on social media” and an acknowledgement that “we’re not always the idealised, curated selves that we’re encouraged to present on our Instagram and TikTok feeds.” I, in my sweats with wild, unkempt hair and makeup free, was the embodiment of this term at that moment. In my defence, we’d been housebound for days due to the rain and it was also very late when she called (we live on different continents and in different time zones). Of course, now that the weekend is over, it’s time to get out of goblin mode, although perhaps not entirely, as it is December and soon time for holidays…
