Notes from the Weekend & a Few Lovely Links

Notes from the Weekend & a Few Lovely Links 14.06.21

YESTERDAY WE went on a long bicycle ride in the countryside, up and down hilly roads past wild roses and babbling brooks all the way to the castle ruins. It’s only our third or so time out on our new folding bikes, and I’ve discovered that I have an unrealistic, romanticised version of what it might be like to go riding in the countryside: I would wear pretty things and not get hot or tired and arrive at our destination looking perfect. In reality, it is not at all like bicycling in London, which is flat and I can arrive just in time for dinner reservations looking somewhat still put together. Here, with the elevation, it’s much harder work and I end up heating up and should most likely wear spandex rather pleated linen trousers and espadrilles. Regardless, it was a lot of fun flying down hills and being out together in the country air. We have mapped out a few adventurous trips that I’m really looking forward to: charming pubs we haven’t yet been to and a bicycle trail along the river all the way to the city. We also watched the Djokovic-Tsitsipas French Open final on Sunday and made a fancy dinner at home. Weekends are our favourite.

This week’s links include eight farmhouses on Airbnb that will make you want to abandon city life; and soft knit tops and espadrilles for summer days; silk camisoles, basket bags and much, much more.
