WHILE WORKING ON this week’s Links, we got very distracted this morning upon the discovery of this stunning getaway home on Martha’s Vineyard. This Oyster Pond summer home belongs to Sir Evelyn Rothschild and Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Still in our ceiling beam phase, we fell for its countryside charm immediately. And if it feels like you’re looking at the pages of a Ralph Lauren catalog, that’s because Lynn hired the very person who designed Ralph Lauren’s stores, Manhattan-based decorator Mark Cunningham, who worked with New York City–based architect Hugh Weisman. And while the home is certainly grand, it still feels cosy, somehow, perhaps due to the open fireplaces and four poster beds, or to Cunningham’s particular expertise in this area. The old timbers that were used in the common room and kitchen were salvaged from New England farms, and the antique terra-cotta tiles in the breakfast area came from Italy. There is wicker and rattan, warm wood and stone, copper and ceramic and linen… Scroll through for a glimpse.
