WE FEATURED Carolina Irving's (second) Manhattan apartment that she shared with her then husband, Ian, back in February 2014. Published in Lonny that same year, it created a stir with its colours and textures, ruffled chintz slipcovers and romantic bohemian vibe. When the former Design Editor at House & Garden joined Oscar de la Renta as the new creative director of their home collection, a Paris apartment would follow, and it is every bit as chic as you'd imagine it to be. There are beautiful layers of prints and patterns and bits and pieces from her old life in New York -- gilded mirrors, a Chinoiserie lamp, a pair of wall sconces. Irving's love of colours fills the room in an impressionistic way, the different patterns assembled like a Vuillard painting.

Born in the United States to Venezuelan parents, Irving was educated in Paris, studying art history and archaeology at the Ecole du Louvre. Her fascination with design and antique textiles began when she specialized in 17th Century Italian art. Formerly an editor at Elle Decor, House and Garden, and Vogue Living, Irving has run Carolina Irving Textiles since 2006, and writes The New York Times' T Magazine design column "In The Air".

“I particularly like fabrics that are easy to live with, look handmade, slightly old and colors that are not jarring, but never beige…I’m not a beige person!”
