01 Enjoy a day at Gamla Stan — one of the largest medieval city centres in all of Europe, the place in fact, where Stockholm was founded, in 1252; it is a pedestrian-friendly area, brimming with a number of cafés, shops, restaurants, and much more
02 Swimming and enjoying time in saunas are very much a part of Swedish tradition, and so, we suggest the elegant Sturebadet, and also the divinely beautiful Raison d’être
03 Head to Urban Deli Stockholm to see their restaurant, deli and shop—a great spot to look over photographs and take a moment or two to relax
04 Discover some of the lovely markets throughout the city, such as Antikmässan — perhaps the largest in the city, [4,500 square meters] and offers a wonderful range of antiques and artwork, design and furnishings. Another favourite is Retromässan — a rather famous antique fair, which is an old brewery that has been refurbished
05 Enjoy a beautiful play at the iconic Opera House — a must visit for the architecture alone, but also, for its location — right close to the water.
06 Take your time and take in the Stockholm canals—whether you enjoy the views in the early evening, as the sun begins to set, or during the day, with a nice cup of coffee in hand; if you so wish, we highly recommend a little bout tour, as many have claimed to learn fun tidbits about the history of the city while enjoying the sites
07 Spend the afternoon enjoy Lake Mälaren—located in the countryside, just west of Stockholm, and is the perfect spot to visit, itinerary left behind, for an afternoon [or perhaps, day or two] of exploration and discovery, and if you wish, a refreshing swim!
A specialty item from Svensk Slöjd — which sells items made by the country’s best craftsmen, with care and love — from gold trimmed, vibrant mugs to one-of-a-kind silver jewelry. Of course, through your travels, you may also tuck in a new pair of Acne Studios boots that couldn’t possibly be left behind, a new Byredo fragrance, and some delicious chocolates [to share, if you wish!] from the unforgettable Chokladfabriken.
As Stockholm is the city that bred one of the [arguably] greatest street style blogs of our time, Stockholm Street Style, we anticipate that you will no doubt be inspired by the stylish ladies and gentleman throughout the city, fashion-wise. As for packing for your travels, if you intend to visit during the winter seasons [to take advantage of the sports perhaps] Stockholm is known to be quite brisk. However, leading into May, the days seem to warm nicely, inviting the greatest amount of visitors from then until September.
Additionally, Stockholm is set quite far north, offering nearly twenty four hours of sunlight each day through some Spring and Summer months. Though quite fabulous for site-seeing and excursions, we suggest packing a lovely sleeping mask to help ensure rest.
As for the daytime, residences of Stockholm are rather experimental with an effortless sense of style, so we encourage you to embrace layers, textures and color, and to have fun while you are there. Be sure to always pack a comfortable pair of shoes, or, perhaps pick a pair or two up while you are there . . .
