WE FIRST featured the work of Madrid-based interior designer Isabel López-Quesada back in 2017, and we’ve never quite gotten over her wonderfully eclectic bohemian-romantic style. This place is more personal for the Spanish designer, for it is her own, one that she spotted years before, when she was only 19 and vowed to her then boyfriend (now husband) that she would live there one day.
WHEN PEOPLE think of Ibiza, most think of a party place of nightclubs and late, late nights. The island is definitely known for its nightlife, but there is also another side to Ibiza: charming quiet villages, sandy beaches, yoga retreats, boutique hotels, restaurants and shops, and even secluded coves along the coast.
Casa Milà is a Modernista building in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was the last private residence designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Built between 1906 and 1912, the building was commissioned by Roser Segimón and her second husband Pere Milà in 1905 with the intention of living on the main floor and renting out the rest of the apartments, hence the Casa Milà, the new home of the Milà family. The building is popularly known as La Pedrera (the stone quarry), in reference to its unconventional rough-hewn appearance.
YES, WE KNOW, it's only been officially autumn for a month, but with the nights drawing in so quickly now, the bright yellow leaves falling off the trees, the wet gloomy skies, and British Summer Time ending at the end of the month, we're already dreaming of sunnier times and warmer days. If the dark days of autumn and the dreary days of winter must be tolerated, then we'll do it with cosy evenings fireside, and also through plenty of daydreaming. These images, that came floating through our feed this week, of places around Mallorca are a perfect place to start ...
THIS WEEKEND we left the city behind with friends for a beautiful beach we’d never been to before. (If you follow on Instagram, you would have seen, in our Stories, the photos and video clips of white sands and grassy dunes and the lull of turquoise crashing waves.) After a leisurely walk along the coast in the bright sun and the bluest Mediterranean skies, we stopped in at the most charming restaurant that serves local cuisine, for a long and lingering lunch of the best seafood paella we’d ever tasted so far.
Last week in my Articles of Interest, I linked to an article about Bailey Richardson, one of the eleven original employees working for Instagram when they were purchased by Facebook for one billion dollars in 2012. The article discusses how Richardson and a few other original employees have now abandoned the popular social media platform by deleting their profiles, citing as their reasons, a move away from the original ethos of artistry, intimacy, discovery and free expression on the platform, giving way to a celebrity-driven marketplace.
"Have you ever thought that you would be living in Spain?" It's a question that P asks often, and my answer is always the same: no, never in a million years had I ever imagined that we would, on a whim, move here, having never visited before, and to this particular city, as opposed to the more predictable choices of Barcelona or Madrid. Not because it's not a wonderful place to live, to be sure, but because I (like many others, it would seem) had never even heard of Valencia before.
In 1973, the architect discovered an old cement factory no longer in use in Sant Just Desvern, a town in Catalonia, Spain, just outside of Barcelona. The factory was dated from the first period of the industrialization of Catalonia, and as such, was not built at once or as a whole, but as a series of additions as the various chains of production became necessary. It consisted of enormous silos, a tall smoke stack, machine rooms, some four kilometres of underground tunnels and stairs that climbed to nowhere.
IT HAS BEEN NEARLY thirty degrees Celsius every day for the past week and the only way to keep cool is in billowy dresses or summer whites. Yesterday, it was a pair of white jeans with an off-the-shoulder top, pulled together with a favourite wicker handbag, which as just been restocked at The Shop ...
