Salt Cathedral – Always There When I Need You

“Always There When I Need You,” the first track to be released from rising Colombian duo Salt Cathedral’s forthcoming debut album Big Waves // Small Waves debuts today-listenhere. The new album is set for release this fall.

Big Waves // Small Waves was written and recorded over the course of 2016 at the band’s Brooklyn studio. The self-produced record began with sampling sessions in an effort to bring folkloric sounds into the band’s pop writing. After sketching out their song ideas, the band fleshed out and recorded, keeping most of the original demo vocals. The Jamaican rapper Assassin, reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry and longtime friend and collaborator Matisyahu each lend vocals to tracks on the album.

Corbin – ICE BOY

It’s been quite a while since we last heard from the artist formerly known as Spooky Black. Having offered us a new track earlier this year with the quietly uploaded track “Destrooy,” Corbin is now back in full force with his latest. “Ice Boy,” which is produced by Shlohmo and D33J, is the first solo single from Corbin since 2014’s fantastic “Worn.”

The new track takes the sounds of his older material and tidies them up considerably, and the resulting track is pretty goddamn great. There’s a bit of a throwback feel to the production, but it suits Corbin’s distinctive voice beautifully. It’s good to have him back after remaining relatively silent since his collaboration project with Bobby RapsCouch Potato. Thankfully, he’s not looking to disappear after this track, either.

Taking to Twitter, Corbin announced that he’s going on tour with Shlohmo and D33J from September onwards. The 16 date tour will start in Orange County on September 7 and conclude n New York City on September 30. Casually posting the song on Twitter, Corbin promised that new material is on the way soon.

  • HUMANS – The Feels

HUMANS is a Canadian indie-electronic duo made up of musicians Robbie Slade and Peter Ricq.

Since coming together in 2010, HUMANS has established itself through creating sounds that successfully fuse experimental electronic elements with catchy indie-pop hooks. Focusing on performance and production styles of both the past and present, HUMANS has consistently impressed upon audiophiles with their technical and compositional skills. Using a combination of synthesizers and instruments, the sound has a certain way of being very unique, while not tied down to one specific genre.

The duo’s self-released EP Avec Mes Mecs (2010) captured the blind, wild, captivating joy of unrestrained youth, and seminal lyrics like “Who knew all we had to do was party” quickly made the EP a house party staple. The follow up EP, Traps was released in 2012 with Hybridity Music. The release saw critical acclaim and college radio success, holding the #1 position for 6 weeks on the earshot electronic charts, and ranking in the top ten on BPM. Traps received a 4/5 on Resident Advisor, and the record was featured on XLR8R, Prefix, Indie Shuffle, Spinner, Interview Magazine, Rcrd Lbl, and scored the cover of Beatroute Magazine. Remixes included acclaimed producers Nautiluss and Max Ulis.

The Radio Dept. – Teach Me to Forget – 12″ version

The new release by The Radio Dept., Teach Me to Forget, is a six-track EP comprised of two brand new songs, three remixes and the band’s new take on the title track, initially released on their previous album, the heartily received Running Out Of Love, from last year.

The band follows that exciting return with an equally prominent EP, developing even further their more electronic sound and appearing more mature than ever, having taken down a notch the political infusion – at least on the new tracks, but still delivering the fineness of their almost newfound aptitude in electronica with much verve and enthusiasm.

TR/ST Bicep

After a lengthy bought of silence, Robert Alfons’ darkened electro-pop project TR/ST is hitting us up with some new material. Specifically, the Toronto musician has shared the new track “Bicep,” which will be included on a new album due out in early 2018.

Speaking of the track, Alfons stated, “This song and much of the album was written in isolation in a farmhouse in rural Canada. It’s about the journey of a figure — essentially a narcissist — fighting with ideas of impurity and worthlessness. It’s about the struggle between accepting and resisting shame, as well as an expression of sexual fantasies.”
