{notes from the weekend & a few lovely links}

Sunday was one of those stunningly beautiful days that feels like summertime, even though it is now officially autumn once again.  The day was spent leaving the city behind far behind — people busily and happily about, curly-haired dogs on leather leashes and leisurely couples on sidewalk terraces with glasses of citrusy lager in the early afternoon sun — for the countryside . . .  The first stop was a family get-together, coffee and conversation and homemade lemon coconut cake; and the second, was dinner at P’s grandmother’s, soup and parsley potatoes and pork chops with sauce béarnaise, followed by tea and lemon drizzle cake.  Between the countryside drives along hilly and curved roads, the sun, sun, sun and the good company, it was a perfect way to spend the day.  And, early this morning, to begin the week, another countryside drive and a walk along the beach . . .
