IT WAS THE shell-encrusted powder room (above) belonging to art dealer William Thuillier and lampshade maker Alvaro Picardo in Pimlico featured in the World Of Interiors that first caught our eye. Somehow, after that, we began seeing them everywhere.
PERHAPS IT IS the shortening days that fade even before 7:30 now, or the evening chill that flutters leaves and creeps in before suppertime. Whatever the reason, we find ourselves drawn to deeper, darker hues lately, and especially to a variation of pinkish brown (or brownish pink, if you like) that we seem to be seeing everywhere lately ...
THIS INSTALMENT OF 10 IMAGES features the quietly chic photos of Juliane Diesner (@styleshiver) There are coffees in Parisian restaurants and velvet chairs in pools of light, drinks on the beach, a ride on the Orient Express, and plates of spaghetti alle vongole. The photos are strangely nostalgic, evocative of times gone by ...
CHANCES ARE, you've already come across the quirky and whimsical work of Gab Bois. The 21-year-old Montreal-based artist's career trajectory reads like a do-what-you love fairytale: she was a year-and-a-half into a bachelor’s degree to become an elementary school teacher when she began to post her photography on her Instagram account, @gabbois. Fast forward to 569k followers, solo and group exhibitions, a residency and many high-end brand collaborations later, and Bois, who never planned to make a career out of her photographic work, has put her studies on hold to pursue a career in the arts.
Mick Jenkins has returned with two new songs since dropping off his latest EP, The Circus, in January. The Chicago MC offers up distinctive sounds through the new tracks, which are dubbed “Frontstreet” and “Snakes” respectively, linking up with Kaytranada and Kojey Radical along the way.
THIS WEEKEND WE watched two films: Knives Out (Rian Johnson, 2019) and Marriage Story (Noah Baumbach, 2019) and both were really good. Knives Out was fast-paced and funny and great fun to try to figure out, while Marriage Story was deeply moving and heartbreaking and made me cry several times.
DANIELA & I NOTICED lately, a flood of long seashell dresses, tops and mermaid swimsuits floating by our Instagram feeds―a welcome sight, of course, because who doesn't have mermaid dreams from time to time? The long slinky satin sheath dresses with their spaghetti straps are most likely by Bevza, the Ukrainian fashion label launched in 2007. All of the dresses appear to be sold out, although the Seashell Top is still available (for now). We've found a few other similar styles, including a fun fanned out bikini top―scroll through our inspiration board below for some serious seaside vibes...
House & Garden recently featured the Georgian home of Jack Laver Brister, an antiques dealer and interior decorator living in Frome, Somerset. The 1780s home, with he shares with his partner Richard Nares, is the most deliciously maximalist with its blend of eighteenth and early nineteenth century furniture, prints, patterns, textures, colours, and art.
PERHAPS THE REASON why we feel such an affinity for Palm Beach style is its eclectic mix of old and new, of Spanish and Caribbean, of modern design elements mixing with thrift shop finds.
Imagine the coral pink interior of an exotic conch shell washed up on a Bahamian beach and you’ve got the inspiration for this week’s article. It’s a colour that is luscious and full of life yet warm and sophisticated.
