It’s a grey November day; rain gently pocks the surface of the tidal pools. There is not much to see in this East Sussex nature reserve – a few gulls, a little grebe, a solitary wader on the shore – but already my breathing has slowed to the rhythm of the water lapping the shingle, my shoulders have dropped and I feel imbued with a sense of calm.
BRIE AND PEARS at a picnic by the seaside at sunset; wicker lamps and wicker bags and sun umbrellas flapping in the breeze; Lisbon kitchens and wide-legged pants; summer sweaters with city shorts and trolleys full of lemons... These are the things of far-flung places but also of summertime, our very favourite time.
Daniel Avery has shared a new song dedicated to the late DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, who died in February at the age of 56. The song is titled “Lone Swordsman,” and proceeds from the track’s Bandcamp sales will be donated to Amnesty International in Weatherall’s memory.
