It is a humbling experience to try to learn any new skill as an adult. But there is a particular humiliation in learning to ride a bike. Not only because biking is something everyone already assumes you know how to do and the quintessential skill you never forget. But also because you have to do it in public, wobbling and teetering under the curious gaze of other adults who seem to be fully in control of their balance, pace, and place in the world.
It was when I was researching a story on that I realized there truly was no escape from the influencer industry. If business bros with corporate jobs in tech and finance — stable, high-paying careers with cushy benefits! — felt the need to supplement their status (and possibly their income) by becoming influencers, what hope was there for the rest of us?
Ever since founding Beyond Meat Inc. in 2009 with the then fantastical idea of making meat without animals, Ethan Brown has been giving the equivalent of one extremely long TED Talk. In 2013 he took the stage at the Wired Business conference, explaining that the world had a very real greenhouse gas-emitting meat problem and that venture capitalists could make a bigger impact investing in fake meat than in solar energy.
AS THE FIRST day of autumn approaches this Friday on September 23, we're resigned to the fact that summer is nearly over. On the bright side, fall clothes are wonderful⏤whether trench coats with wellies; or a chunky knit with white jeans (we are still transitioning after all); tweed blazers and baseball caps; flared blue jeans and boxy coats, here are a few of our favourite ways to dress for these autumn days...
THE LEAVES are turning and it's all back to work and school. Autumn is on the way in the Northern Hemisphere and there is no going back. We're slowly letting go of our linen dresses, bare shoulders and summer whites and adding our favourite autumn things back in everyday dressing. Here, we've rounded up a few items to add to your shopping list: a cosy cashmere turtleneck, a pair of straight suit trousers, and a great handmade belted wool coat...
THERE IS only one bank holiday weekend left this summer, in the last week of August, so there feels like an urgency to wear all of our favourite summer outfits before it's too late. While the Double Denim trend can transition into autumn, this trend, a white top with cream-coloured pants definitely belongs to the warmer months. Whether tucked or untucked, a t-shirt or a blouse, ankle-length pants or long pleated trousers, here are a few ways we like to style this mini trend...
AS FAR AS TRENDS go, double denim is definitely one of our favourites⏤it's casual and comfortable and yet also très chic. Also referred to as denim-on-denim or a Canadian Tuxedo (which we previously thought referred to Canadians' love of the fabric, but actually has something to do with Bing Crosby and a hotel in Vancouver in 1951) ...
STOCKHOLM-born Felicia Akerstrom's impeccable style has been featured here at TIG many times before. The blogger, digital influencer and content creator describes her social channels as a visual diary of her style and travels. We love her minimalistic style and her effortless high-low mix of investment pieces and affordable finds. From long skirts and light-knit sweaters to white pantsuits and black halter dresses, here are a few of our favourite looks...
OUR COUNTRYSIDE village has these charming events and one of them, which happens every year, is a Midsummer's Evening and this year, it was held last Thursday, one day after the Summer Solstice. There were food trucks and folk dancers and face-painting. All the shops were opened late and there was live music (a cover band act).
