ON FRIDAY, March 31, 2022, French fashion & portrait photographer Patrick Demarchelier passed away in St. Barths of cancer. He was 78. Patrick Demarchelier was born in 1943 in Le Havre, a major port in northern France's Normandy region. As the story goes, he got his start in photography when his stepfather gave him his first Kodak camera on his 17th birthday. He became enchanted with photography, taking pictures of friends and weddings and learning how to retouch negatives and develop film
Earlier this year, two men launched a podcast made up of meandering conversations about their friendship and the state of the world. Nothing unusual there. Of the two million or so podcast series in existence (that’s 48m episodes and counting), a large proportion is made up of groups of men talking about themselves and laughing at their own jokes.
THE FIRST CHRISTIAN DIOR perfume ad that ever caught our attention was the 2008 Sofia Coppola-directed Miss Dior Cherie television commercial starring model Maryna Linchuk frolicking around Paris, bounding through boulevards, trying on sunglasses, and riding her bike to the strains of Brigitte Bardot’s “Moi, Je Joue”. Coppola has worked for a range of brands including Gap, Marc Jacobs and H&M, brands who were all looking to inject some of Coppola’s visually stunning, sensual style to their products. The director applied many of her signature filmmaking techniques to these commercials, including plenty of pastel colours, hip soundtracks and languid camera movements.
