PARIS - You may not know David Jimenez, but it's certain you'll know his work, for he has played a major part in developing the very specific aesthetics of Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and Williams Sonoma.
MONTREAL - We first came across the Old Montreal (Vieux-Montréal) apartment of Lauren MacLean (@livingbylo) on the Apartment Therapy Instagram page and immediately fell in love with its impossible chicness. MacLean, who has "always been very passionate about interior design and beautiful spaces" works in the corporate world by day, using decorating as a creative outlet. "I believe your surroundings can really influence your state of mind so I try to create spaces that are not only visually attractive, but also carry a peaceful energy, paying attention to all the senses" she says. Her Montreal home, which has all the charm of a Paris apartment with its crown moulding and boiserie, a stone fireplace and herringbone floors, floor-to-ceiling windows and floods of light, also has a surprise back terrace filled with white trelliage and a myriad plants...
CHICAGO - Even though have been curbing social media use as much as possible as per this year's New Year's Resolutions, it is still a part of my work, and happily there are still some lovely and inspiring things to be found from time to time. Sara Shakeel's bio simply and hilariously says, "I was a Dentist". And it's no wonder that she uses the past tense, for The Original Crystal Artist is enjoying quite a bit of internet notoriety these days.

Last week in my Articles of Interest, I linked to an article about Bailey Richardson, one of the eleven original employees working for Instagram when they were purchased by Facebook for one billion dollars in 2012. The article discusses how Richardson and a few other original employees have now abandoned the popular social media platform by deleting their profiles, citing as their reasons, a move away from the original ethos of artistry, intimacy, discovery and free expression on the platform, giving way to a celebrity-driven marketplace.
Passing several book shops this past few days I realized there were some covers on display that were familiar to me: Picasso’s Kitchen, Picasso Picabia, Picasso-Matisse, Les années Vallauris to name a few.
If you’re a longtime reader, you’ll know about our love for ornate austerity — spaces that are minimalist but not altogether cold and modern, but warm and with traditional flourishes such as chevron wood flooring, wood panelling, marble and crown moulding. This stunning house in Boston by Steven Harris Architects fits the description perfectly…
Architectural historian and interior decorator Edward Bulmer's red-bricked Queen Anne house in Herefordshire is a study in charm with its walls of turquoise, sea green and pink, a Chippendale carved mahogany four-poster bed here, eighteenth-century painted Chinese wallpaper there, silk sari curtains and carefully thought after details...
