In 1973, the architect discovered an old cement factory no longer in use in Sant Just Desvern, a town in Catalonia, Spain, just outside of Barcelona. The factory was dated from the first period of the industrialization of Catalonia, and as such, was not built at once or as a whole, but as a series of additions as the various chains of production became necessary. It consisted of enormous silos, a tall smoke stack, machine rooms, some four kilometres of underground tunnels and stairs that climbed to nowhere.
WE FIRST CAME ACROSS The French Manoir on Julie Huh-Currie's Instagram page of the same name, @french_manoir, where she documents the restoration, renovation and decoration of her château in Pays de la Loire. Victoria magazine recently ran a feature on the place, telling the story of how Currie's first thoughts of purchasing an estate in France can to her from her home in Australia, a grueling twenty-two hour flight away. Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Resort 2018 runway show, entitled La Modernité de l’Antiquité, brought ancient Greece to the Grand Palais in Paris. A bust of Venus that sat on the fireplace mantle of Coco Chanel’s Rue Cambon apartment was said to be the inspiration behind the theme.
