As the story goes, Najeeba Hayat, founder and creative director of up-and-coming footwear label Liudmila, was freshly graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in government when she decided that she wasn’t destined for a life of bureaucratic “banging your head against the wall.” Pursuing a lifelong love of style, Hayat moved to Milan and took a shoemaking course at the ArsSutoria School.
I have been collecting cut glass and crystal trinket boxes for as long as I can remember, from antique shops in small seaside towns and Saturday morning auctions, and sometimes, rare charity shop finds -- French cut crystal with golden hinges and in perfect condition. Sprinkled all over the house, they are useful for holding paper clips and thumbtacks on the desk, matchboxes on coffee tables and bookcases, hairpins and lipgloss in the powder room and rings and things on the vanity. They all add instant glamour with their glittery faceted reflections, French crystal catching the light on a Monday morning. Their uses are endless. Here, we've rounded a few inspirational ways to use these beautiful pieces from a time gone by, and you can shop our brand new selection at thisisglamorous.com/shop ...
WHILE WE LOVE our work here at TIG and wouldn’t trade what we do for anything, sometimes doing what you love can involve long hours, and at those times (especially on Friday or Saturday evenings) having a glass of wine or a cocktail after finishing up can make things feel a little more celebratory. And having a well-stocked and beautiful bar cart elevates things even more, making late nights at work a little more posh, and perhaps even enjoyable.
It is the height of summer and we’re feeling a little wistful about Ibiza, the island whose turquoise waters, rugged coves and secluded white beaches gets under your skin. And so, this installment of The Edit features a little bohemian chic by way of wicker mirrors and ceramic vases, ikat throw cushions and a book on the subject — and because we can never resist a little glamour, shimmery body oil, diamonds and feathery pink shoes …
IT WAS ONE OF THOSE sipping rosé in the sun kind of weekends, hazy and hot and filled with the quiet languidness and melancholy that comes with the knowledge that these days must be savoured before they fade away. The city is empty save for tourists busily bicycling through the streets and parks; ordering glasses of sangria, folded maps and guide books and cameras strewn across tables and wicker café furniture. While things seem to have settled down for most in these last days of summer, for us, it has been the craziest, busiest, most stressful time yet, with the all the new projects we’ve taken on and the expansion of The Shop, so we’ve been taking a little extra time on weekends for summery things. Perhaps in September we’ll be able to get away for a little while, while the world goes back to school and work … This week’s links include the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris and a recipe for Breakfast Buckwheat Florentines; a perfectly pretty pink overdyed rug much, much more.
IT IS A MILLION DEGREES lately, and we’ve been eating watermelon for breakfast and gazpacho for lunch in an attempt to cool down, in addition to the many sunlit dates on terraces, the only civilized way to endure the heat. The city is emptying out as it does every August, and the evenings have already begun to get quiet.
