LA POSTA VECCHIA is a five-star luxury boutique hotel located in the coastal town of Ladispoli, about forty minutes outside of Rome on the historic Via Aurelia, a Roman road that was constructed in approximately 241 BC. House in a 17th-century villa and surrounded by 15 acres of Italianate gardens, the hotel overlooks the Tyrrenean sea and shares a coastline with villas and castles, small towns and beach clubs. La Posta Vecchia was once a Renaissance villa for the noble Orsini family, and the home of millionaire John Paul Getty*, who filled it with Italian art and other rare treasures, with the help of his art historian, Federico Zeri.
In 1990, La Posta Vecchia opened as a luxury hotel with 19 rooms (7 Suites and 12 Rooms). Designer Marie Louise Scio was hired to decorate the rooms, keeping much of the 18th century décor but adding modern conveniences. The rooms are filled with chandeliers and original fireplaces, precious marbles and beautiful textiles, four-poster beds and antique maps, paintings and tapestries. For instance, the Medici Suite features a 17th century De Rosi map of Lazio, a similar period marbled table from Naples, and an exquisite ornate handcrafted bed. Guests can enjoy the indoor pool, spa treatments, yoga classes, a private beach club, personal training, horseback riding, canoeing, an outdoor turf tennis court, and small pebble beach. There is even a private basement museum devoted to the ancient ruins Getty discovered hidden beneath the villa.
