Christies

On 6 March 2017, Christie’s Paris hosted an auction featuring a remarkable collection of pieces by Diego Giacometti (1902-1985), the lesser-known but highly respected designer and brother of the celebrated sculptor Alberto Giacometti. These works were specially commissioned for Hubert de Givenchy, one of the 20th century’s most influential fashion designers, with whom Giacometti had shared a deep and enduring friendship spanning several decades. Givenchy, who turns 90 next month, told Le Figaro that he was offloading a portion of his personal collection at the Chateau du Jonchet southwest of Paris. “However, I am keeping some of my (Giacomettis) which are useful” to have around the house, he said.
