WE DID a survey at our Weekly Newsletter a while back and a longtime reader left a comment saying, “I began reading This is Glamorous back in 2009! It was everything a blog could be: glamorous, romantic, dreamy, and chic. … I read Substack/Blogs for respite…to escape from an increasingly chaotic world filled with heartbreak and tragedy.” We have been feeling these sentiments a little more lately, with the world feeling a bit topsy turvey these days, with stock market crashes, massive computer outages, hurricanes, wars, and political (and general) unrest. I’ve been staying offline a little more recently, and reading more books (this week it’s The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir), but also know that TIG is still a place you come to escape the craziness, even if it’s only for a moment or so, so this week, I hope to spend some time putting together a few beautiful things for your next visit. At our Substack this week (for Paid Subscribers), I wrote an essay: From Skin Deep to Self-Discovery, in which I discuss how I changed the way I think about my skin; the only skincare products I use at the moment; the French pharmacy creams and balms my Parisian aunt used to stop the scarring on my face after an accident, and more. You can read it here. Until next time! Be well.
This week’s links include a look inside Hôtel du Couvent, a 400-year-old nunnery in Nice; and recipes for salads of artichokes with green beans and fennel; cashmere cardigans and gypsy rings for August days; the best thing for longevity, and much, much more.
xo,
