Notes from the Weekend

THE HEATWAVE has subsided, and now, instead of hot sticky air seeping through the walls, cool breezes are making gauzy white curtains flutter in every room and it’s a little easier to breath at noon, when the sun is at its highest. It’s also much easier to workout out now, especially since I ordered new tennis dresses and pleated skirts to replace my usual yoga tights, which are too hot. (Don’t know why the idea never occurred to me before. It’s a good one.) On Friday P had an appointment for a long overdue haircut at a new salon near Bethnal Green and due to a wrong turn, a missed a train and other misadventures, we were an hour late. (Don’t worry, it all worked out in the end, and his hair looked really great.) I still need to find a new salon as well, and just when I was finally getting used to Denise, who is now five hours away. This Friday we have a dinner reservation in Vauxhall that we’re looking forward to, and yesterday, the wall sconce and media console I ordered from Spain finally arrived, so things are coming together a little bit more in the new place, although there are still a few boxes around. Read somewhere that it takes 182 days on average, for someone to unpack their last box after moving to a new house, so we’re not doing too badly by those standards. I, of course, am impatient for everything to be finished already, even though it’s only been seven weeks.
