THERE ARE SOME decades that we don’t really know much about⏤the 40s for instance⏤we know nothing about the music from that time, or even the films. We recently saw To Catch A Thief, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 film starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, so we’re beginning to become vaguely familiar with that decade, but the 70s, that’s one timeframe that has never appealed to us aesthetically, especially after watching the A&E documentary about Hugh Hefner recently. We may have changed our minds a little, of course, after we saw this vintage fashion editorial featuring Lauren Hutton shot by Richard Avedon for the US August 1973 edition of Vogue. The styles look amazingly current, and fast forward to just a few more years⏤to 1980 and American Gigolo, Lauren Hutton‘s film with Richard Gere and it gets even better. It’s plain to see from these images where the basis for today’s chic autumn layered looks came from.
