WE HAPPENED UPONThe Sparrow Hotel on Victoria’s Secret model Elsa Hosk‘s Instagram feed, the warm pink walls, marble fireplace and crystal chandelier drawing us in to take a closer look.
Located in a restored fin de siècle building by Stureplan, Stockholm’s landmark square, the 73-room 4-star boutique hotel is right in the city centre. Humlegårdsparken park is nearby, and Djurgården, with its museums and cafés is just a walk away.
The décor, with its bright clashing colours and patterns—pink beds and green sofas—graphic elements and Art Deco flourishes, has a Parisian vibe that is not unlike many of the hotels you will find in the French capital. This of course, is by design. One of its restaurants, The Sparrow Bistro Stockholm, is said to be a genuine French bistro-style dining experience with a modern take on classic French cuisine. The bistro is headed by Mathias Dahlgren, one of Sweden’s most famous chefs, and the menu, written in French, includes dishes such as Toast de caviar, Moules frites, Cocotte aux girolles à la crème, as well as French oysters. The Sparrow Wine Bar, with its open kitchen, plenty of marble and bistro tables and chairs, is describe as having “an air of Paris”. There’s also a charming courtyard.
Old and new collide in this French hotel in Sweden with boiserie and geometric patterns, crystal glass chandeliers and contemporary sofas and chairs, juliet balconies and herringbone floors make it a quirky, eclectic and comfortable place to consider the next time you’re in Stockholm. Complimentary tea, fruit and newspapers are available in the lobby, there is also an on-site gym.
Double rooms from 1,900 Swedish Krona (£154) in low season; and from 2,500 Swedish Krona (£203) in high. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi are included.
