JANUARY IS A funny time: on the one hand, we’re drawn to all-white minimalistic interiors for the clean slate that they represent, and on the other, it’s such a dreary month that anything colourful instantly lifts our mood and brightens these long dark winter days. That is why we fell for this early-1900s townhouse in Notting Hill. Decorated for a couple who were expecting their first child, interior designer Beata Heuman had just six months to get the 100-year-old home ready. Repainting, reupholstering, and adding new furnishings and lighting in a quirky, quintessentially British style gave the space a relaxed, Bohemian charm with cheerful brightness that’s infectious. While some of the rooms might be a little too eclectic for our tastes, the dining room, with its Art Nouveau, gilded mirror, vintage console and stunning Atelier Vime planter is pure perfection.
