Not certain why it took me so long to finally catch up on Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 TV series starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It was just added to Netflix this past July, so perhaps that is the reason. I’ve been watching an episode a day during cardio sessions on the exercise bike and had no idea it was so charming and can now see why the world has been swooning over Colin Firth ever since. I read the Jane Austen novel at the end of last year and found it entirely enjoyable, which means that I would normally find the film or television adaptation subpar and was surprised to discovered that it was not at all. Costume dramas aside, the news has been dire lately with mutant strains and a new tier of lockdowns in London and the southeast and Christmas seems like something that happened other years, in other lifetimes. As small as our holiday celebrations will be this year, there will still be fruitcake and wine and each other.
