THIS PAST SUNDAY we booked in for lunch at our favourite pub for the first time in many months. There is a rose garden with socially distanced tables set up and a very efficient system in place that made us feel comfortable and safe venturing out into the world again after so many weeks of lockdown. We are taking very small tentative steps and are, for the most part, still essentially in quarantine, but it was nice to do something as normal as Sunday Roast again after so long, to put on actual clothes and makeup, and even hot rollers in my hair. I’ve also added at least 15 new books to my Kindle to keep away from obsessively checking daily death tolls and news of vaccinations and proposed second waves by wintertime. Plus, read somewhere that the most successful people in the world read at least 50 books a year, so that is my new goal, despite only having the time to make it to 20 last year. More time on books, less time on social media and myriad screens at home and office is the plan, and I think it’s a good one.
This week’s links include a beautiful manor estate in Gloucestershire and linen dresses for summer days; changes in restaurant design due to the pandemic, a hideaway in Mexico and much, much more.
