WE HAVE BEEN waiting for plans to finally progress and have been staying at our hotel for so long now, the staff have been referring to us as “residents”. And all of this waiting has me thinking about the concept of time, especially since beginning the wonderful book Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli (an Italian physicist known for his work on loop quantum gravity theory and the pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Anaximander). One of the many beautifully expressed and profound thoughts discovered in this book so far that I keep pondering is, “We can think of the world as made up of things. Of substances. Of entities. Of something that is. Or we can think of it as made up of events. Of happenings. Of processes. Of something that occurs. Something that does not last, and that undergoes continual transformation, that is not permanent in time.” And so, perhaps while it may seem as if we have been waiting for forever, it is, perhaps, just a series of events and happenings along the way that, when finally over, will not feel like any time has passed at all…
