THIS WEEKEND was one of those lounging, hair up, no make-up and old films ones that are needed from time to time, when the to-do lists get too unruly and every email is a catastrophe to be solved. The city has been filling up again, mostly with tourists — French and German and other parts of Europe. They rent bicycles and ride through the Turia, their shoulders bright red and burnt from the Mediterranean sun, so unused to these never ending sunny skies. Soon all the shutters for the business in our neighbourhood will open once again after a month of holidays — the art gallery across the street and the butcher on the corner, the little bar with its sidewalk terrace filled late-night drinkers. There’s change and hope in the air, making us feel both deeply wistful and terribly excited at once.
This week’s links include a cosy cottage in Connecticut, cosy cable-knits and white shoes for autumn; a recipe for chocolate birthday cake, How to Throw an End of Summer Garden Party, and much, much more.
