DREAMLIKE AND WHIMSICAL EDITORIALS evoke fashion magazines of past decades, when editors would travel to locations for weeks to shoot the photographs. They would gather the models, production team, and photographers, and make a party. It’s why we love this surrealist shoot for Vogue Japan’s May 2017 issue, for it feels like an absurd but beautiful dream. There is a Dior quilted red gown, worn by model Ruth Bell in an elegant ballroom amongst butterflies. There is an elegant masked ball with layers and layers of chiffon and taffeta. There are also models dressed in black couture riding unicorns—yes, unicorns. It is as if Salvador Dalí and Truman Capote threw a party, one that irresistibly mixes art and style. —Victoria.
