No monotony or grey in this beautiful and spacious penthouse in New York City: here, light delicate patterns and colours exude a witty and radiant atmosphere. Mario Buatta is the designer behind this transformation: “I think color is so important, especially in New York, to come in from streets full of stone and cement to a drab apartment is just depressing”. His work brings freshness to the space, especially in the living room, with its soft and cheerful green.
Buatta has a collection of modern art and photography at his disposal—the clients, an investor and his wife, are passionate collectors and like to mix everything, so Buatta has introduced modern art to traditional and architecture and classic furniture in the 7,000 square foot space.
In the living room, a fresh green palette and natural light welcome all who enter; to accent the room’s height, Buatta created faux-marble pediments above the doors. Sofas and chairs in different patterns are a charming invitation
Rose and gold are the colours of the dining room which has two smaller tables instead of large one, the idea here being to give the space the feeling of a garden tent
The library is a junction of two small rooms, with wood panels adding cosiness and sophistication
The romantic bedroom has patterned wood floors in the same shade of green in the living room, with the canopy bed as the star of the space. Below: outside, a gazebo adds old-world charm to the spacious terrace
Isn`t the end result lovely? —Bárbara
