THREE FRIENDS MET in the early 1990’s and launch an antique store, a restaurant, a London bar, and an international interior design practice. In 2006, Stefan Karlson, Hassan Abdullah and Michel Lasserre discovered the Château de la Goujeonnerie in the Vendée, France. The château was built in 1872 by architect, Arsene Charier, for the mayor and his family, and included 22 rooms over three floors, a lake and picturesque views of hills in the distance. Since that time, the grand château had fallen into a derelict state, taking the three friends five years to restore it. Today, when the three are not staying to enjoy the rooms and heated pool themselves, they rent out the château for holidays and parties.
{p.s.} more places in France, more places & more décor
“The château’s interior is now filled with pieces that span centuries and continents, placed in an eclectic style emphasising symmetry and beauty. In the dining room is a table that once belonged in a Paris library, from the Clignacourt antiques market. Baroque mirrors from Lisbon, and plasterwork and columns from London complete the setting, lit in the evenings by four Italian chandeliers, circa 1810.” —Marianne Cotterill and Lisa Thomas, Vogue Australia
