{warm and woodsy}

{photography by claire richardson}

Painted the sitting room an elegant gray in early summer, and almost immediately missed the pretty and chalky buttercream walls before the new paint had time to dry . . .

Of course, am now adoring the new, sophisticated and saturated gray, but every once in a while think about the warm and woodsy tones . . .

  • Oh no! It has been too long since I last stopped by your wonderful blog. I have missed it. This is a perfect example of why.

Oh and just so you know, I had to kirtsy this one all over the place!

  • I adore old houses with nautical charts on the walls! It’s such a classic beach house look in my mind.

  • … grey walls, white trim and cabinetry, accent yellow… Smoky and sophisticated indeed! They are adjectives to shoot for.

  • lisagolightly — so glad you decided to say hello :)

la la lovely – just checked out the link, and love the look you’re going for! A little more pretty and lively, versus the “Boulder Gray”, which is more smoky and sophisticated. Both looks are great.

Melissa Lewis – so great to hear you’ve used the same shade and with great results – a glaze wash sounds fantastic.

Alis – such a lovely, lovely comment – thanks so much.

Marie Louise – thanks for reminding me that change is good.

Coco+Kelley – completely agree – every home needs warm, natural elements. Always love it when you stop by.

  • such a wonderful collection..! you’re amazing. this set is so peaceful and lovely. and, of course, i love all the wood as i don’t know what i would do without a dose of it in my own decor. every home should have a bit of raw wood in it! whether it’s a big farmtable or a worn in stool…

  • Change is good – Buttercream is just a can of paint away!
    Great collection of images!

  • a stunning collection of shots. love them all – so warm, so woodsy, just perfect!

  • Everything is so gorgeous – I love all the white mixed with the wood.

  • All photos are great but I love the most the one with sakura and leaves ))) Stunningly beautiful )))

    Hugs from Angel.

  • In my eyes, you are the blogger with the best eye for beautiful photos. Always such a delight to check your blog…
I get obsessed with different colors, styles etc all throughout the year, but the look of white ceramic and raw wood together is something that always strikes me as my favorite look.

  • We’ve used that Ralph Lauren shade before in a clients home with a glaze wash over it… to die for! Sounds great paired with yellow!!!!

I agree with LaLaLovely, would love to see photos:)

  • Oooooh what lovely photos, as usual! My favorite is the cozy room with the brown leather sofas! Sooooo gorgeous! xoxoxox!

  • wow! What a fantastic post. Each and every photo is gorgeous.

  • What a fabulous job you did choosing these images – all so different but equally gorgeous. Love them!

  • I love white wooden floors and walls.

  • Your room sounds lovely. You should post a pic for us all to see. I was thinking the same thing about going a little lighter. This is what i am going for….(except I have green countertops to work with)
after looking at photos in domino i thought maybe lighter would be best. I’ll check out the boulder gray.
Thanks for all of your help. Very sweet of you :-)

  • This is such a great collection of photos!! Love the theme!

  • Love the photos too ! I actually like mixing in a little earthiness with the glamour look myself. Been a big fan of your blog and thought it was high time to tell you so ! Thanks for all the sharing !!!

  • i love each and everyone of these images. I’ve always wanted a space that was clean and earthy and this is exactly what i needed. …Off to save them to my desktop!

  • Lovely post these stylish photos are really calm and elegant- everything my home aspires to be(underneath all the chaos!)

  • Wow…these are very inspiring and amazing!

  • Trina, gray sounds like the perfect choice for your washroom, with the white shutters and cabinetry. Used Ralph Lauren Boulder Gray, which is lovely, although if I were to choose again, might have gone one shade lighter . . . Thankfully, with all the sunlight in the room, it works out. Paired the gray with white trim, shelving, etc., then a splash of bright, sunny yellow curtains and yellow silk throw cushions on the sofa. Would love to know what you finally decide.

Awww, Felicity, you’re the best! Haven’t had much time for putting together posts like before (summer, and travelling and all that), but still fun to see what can be done in less time, and even more fun to have you back.

  • Glamorous – this is a magnificent post.
I know you’ve been back from your trip for a while – but did I tell you – it is good good good to have you back.

    Hugs bug

  • I adore the shot with the empty frames… eclectic, warm, and inviting…

  • So pretty. I especially love that dining table! I am actually grueling over gray paint swatches at this very moment. What color did you choose? Any advice would be appreciated. Thinking of it for my bathroom. White shutters and cabinetry.
PS-thanks for adding me to your blogroll!
    Trina xx
